Very Comprehensive Tour of Puerto Plata! We had a fantastic tour of Puerto Plata. We learned a lot about the city and stopped at some great locations. We got to see and taste some locally made rum, check out local gift shops and tourist attractions, and a local organic chocolatier. We Took The Best Private Puerto Plata Tour! This was the best city tour..My family really enjoyed this service..From the start when I booked this tour online, Edwin communicated with me with prompt responses to all of my questions..He reassured me with his friendly professionalism..Edwin and Juan were both waiting for us at the time and meeting place he said when we arrived outside the Amber Cove cruise port..The best part was it was a private tour with just our family of four..We felt entirely safe because they were professional and courteous the entire time, always helping us in and out of the minivan when we made stops, always pointing out potholes to watch out for when we were walking on city streets getting to some point of interest..They also thoughtfully offered to take photos of our family at each tourist attraction to have special memories of our time in Puerto Plata..We stopped to do souvenir and jewelry shopping and they never made us feel like we were being rushed but patiently waited while we did that..All in all, it was the best decision we made choosing Edwin's Tours and we highly recommend them to those of you who want an enjoyable personal tour free of a lot of other tourists..You WILL NOT be disappointed! MUST EXPERIENCE 7 WATERFALLS!!! This tour was so much fun, we will wellguided by Eddie and we also took the photo package and Bladimir did a great job. Once we hit the waterfalls, it was such an incredible experience. Sliding down in between those rocks were exhilirating.WE were also driven by Virgilio and he wa such a great driver and gave us some historical facts about the country. WE were so impressed with his professional that we took another trip to Santiago. He drove as around and introduced as to gthis delicious local cuisine called mofongo.We highly recommend Virgilio and Edwin Transfers Tours when you visit Puerto Plata. Waterfalls were awesome, sales pitch not so much Mixed opinions. The waterfall experience itself is easily 5 stars. Not too difficult hike (but still uphill) plus really cool refreshing swim in cave waters, including really fun and exhilarating natural water slides and jumps. Our tour guides and photographers were very nice and informative. However, we could have done without the "pit stop" by a gift shop, with somewhat aggressive sales pitches to buy expensive Dominican products (cigars, jewelry, mamajuana alcoholic drink). It was described as a "plantation visit" but was petty clearly just a sales ambush. We of course want to support local business and were planning on visiting gift shops and traditional stores anyway, but didn't appreciate being cornered (our driver drove us to a remote shop location) for a ~20 min sales pitch. In summary: the Damajagua waterfall experience in general comes highly recommended, but maybe choose a different tour company that doesn't take you to a souvenir sales pitch. Edwin Transfers City Tour was great! October 23, 2024. My husband and I had planned to do the 7 waterfalls adventure together, but due to a recent surgery, decided it may be too risky for me, so I booked Edwin's City Tour and went on my own. I heartily recommend this company! Shared the very clean, air conditioned new van with just one other couple, so it was like a private tour. Edwin, the owner, and Juan (hope I have his name right), our guide, were amazing - so helpful, accommodating, knowledgeable and polite, and they went out of their way to make it as interesting and fun as possible. They both spoke very good English and helped with translating for us when needed. The tour included every tourist stop and photo op in Puerto Plata: rum and chocolate factories, shopping places, cigar and mamajuana making, the Cathedral, the Central square, and the Old Spanish Fort, and I was happy to find a great DR style coffee on Umbrella Street. The Fort was especially interesting, they gave us individual English audio pods and I learned so much about the history of Puerto Plata including how the Spanish conquerors destroyed the entire town and moved the population to another place so the British couldn't have it. It remained empty for 100 years. We agreed that it would be nice to drive up above the city a bit higher -- so offered a little extra cash, and Edwin drove us up the mountain, by wealthier homes and on some surprisingly narrow streets like in Europe - was surprised to see the blue stucco prison right there too, on choice view propterty. We didn't go as high of course, as the cable car tour, but it was a fun little adventure seeing more than just the usual tourist stops, and we had a good view of the town and the sea stretching out below us.. Started getting hungry and asked if we could try some local food, so Edwin drove us to a quaint restaurant where we had simple and tasty freshly caught fish and ceviche. Arrived as a tourist, left as Family 💕 One of the best tours ever. Francisco met me with the warmest smile ever. I was escorted to a lovely van, Ac piping and given refreshing ice cold water.We then headed off on our tour, I got to see so many things and the whole time I felt very safe, and Francisco was like my private photohrapher capturing every moment. I loved how as a solo traveler he took such good care of me, advising me where to buy when it came to shopping. And preparing me ahead of time of each spot we were going to.I saw so many things, the pink street, umbrella street, cigars, rum, chocoalte, larimar, the Fort, the town center and Boulevard. Solid tour company We had a nice day with Edwin Tours on the waterfall trip. Wilber (spelling?) brought a great positive energy and was very attentive. The hike to the falls was a little tough for kids, but they really livened up when they got there and had fun. Their bus was nice and our driver was safe. A larger family can save $100+ by just walking outside the Puerto Plata complex for an excursion with Edwin. Also, the companies not affiliated with the cruise line tend to have smaller groups and have more flexibility during the day. We recommend Edwin Tours.
